What is DIRTcar
DIRTcar Racing is the world’s premier sanctioning body for dirt track racing. With over 4000 members racing at nearly 200 dirt tracks around North America, DIRTcar sanctions and promotes weekly dirt racing, regional and national touring series, and premier events with a broad range of stock cars, modifieds, late models, and sprint cars. It operates under the World Racing Group (WRG) umbrella and includes the World of Outlaws, Super DIRTcar Series, Xtreme Outlaw Series, ASCS, and the DIRTcar Summer Nationals Tour.
DIRTcar Racing is known for its diverse range of racing classes and its commitment to maintaining high standards of competition and safety in dirt track racing. They hold events at numerous tracks across the United States and Canada, attracting a wide range of drivers and fans.
DIRTcar Expands
Throughout the late 1970s and 1980s, DIRTcar expanded its reach, sanctioning more tracks and events across the Northeastern United States and parts of Canada. This expansion helped standardize rules and formats, making it easier for drivers to compete at different tracks without needing to modify their cars significantly.
UMP Founded
UMP was founded in 1984 by Bob Memmer, a promoter from Indiana, with the goal of providing a unified set of rules and standards for dirt track racing in the Midwest. Memmer recognized the need for consistency in rules across different tracks to make it easier for drivers to compete at multiple venues.
UMP Influence
Over the years, UMP grew in influence, attracting tracks and drivers from not only the Midwest but also other regions of the United States. The organization's emphasis on fair competition and affordability resonated with racers and track promoters alike.
DIRTcar and UMP Merge
In 2002, UMP merged with DIRTcar Racing, a larger sanctioning body that oversaw dirt track racing on a national scale. This merger brought UMP under the DIRTcar umbrella while allowing it to maintain its identity and regional focus.

World Racing Group Founded
World Racing Group was founded in 2002 by Ted Johnson, a visionary motorsports entrepreneur who previously founded the World of Outlaws series for Sprint Car racing. Johnson saw an opportunity to consolidate various dirt track racing properties under one organization to streamline operations and enhance the sport's overall profile.
World Racing Group Acquires DIRTcar
In 2004, DIRT Motorsports was acquired by World Racing Group (WRG), a leading motorsports entertainment company based in Concord, North Carolina. This acquisition brought DIRTcar under the same umbrella as other prominent racing series, including the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars and Late Models.
Today
Under WRG ownership, DIRTcar continues to grow and evolve, expanding its presence beyond the Northeastern United States and into other regions. It continued to sanction numerous dirt track events, including major races like the Super DIRT Week held at the Oswego Speedway in New York.
